Martin d28 bridge lift6/9/2023 The bass string is 5/32" off the fretboard at the 12th fret. I was looking at the action and it seems just a tad high. I have a '99 D28 that I bought new, but which I seldom play. The Bridge Doctor took care of the problem nicely, however, and made the guitar sound better as well. The J45 was one of the double-X versions that Gibson experimented with back then, and there is no way that replacing the bridge plate with a larger one would have solved the problem, because Gibson had made the top way too thin - it was only about. In all cases it stopped and reversed the bellying problem, and in one case (a 70's-vintage Gibson J45) actually improved the tone of the guitar. I have installed several of these on guitars of varying quality, and it has not had a negative impact on the tone of any of them. I definitly do , and any device that attaches to the top of your guitar and then to the tail block will cause the top not to vibrate like it should, the top of a guitar is the most active part of your guitar.
